Where to go when it’s too cold: Nearby warming centers

As the weather continues to drop across the city, it is important to know where warming facilities are located in order to provide yourself or others with the resources needed during freezing conditions.

Warming centers are brought together through various organizations that have partnered up to help provide heat and comfort to the surrounding community during colder seasons.

Here is a list of the facilities that are located near the Clear Lake and Harris County area:

  • Bayland Community Center

Hours of operation and capacity may vary by location and weather conditions.

What’s recommended to bring:

  • Extra layers such as a coat, hat, gloves, and thick socks to stay warm.
  • A sleeping bag, blanket, and a pillow to make it more comfortable to rest.
  • Personal care items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, items for infants (diapers, formula, food, portable crib), and any prescribed medications.
  • Snacks and water.
  • Cellphone charger.

Those in need of a ride to a warming center can call 3-1-1 to request a Z-Trip to an open facility, or call 2-1-1 to help locate resources near them.

Community members are encouraged to utilize these warming facilities and other local resources as needed to ensure the safety and comfort of themselves and others.
