Was Kevin Durant the missing link?

The Houston Rockets are loaded, and with Kevin Durant the team has skyrocketed.

Basketball season is underway, and the Houston rockets are currently 3rd in the western conference.

So far, the team is 6-3 and has been playing some high caliber offense and excellent defense. Their roster is also looking pretty nice with a few key upgrades to the core line up.

The rockets struck gold in the offseason when the Rockets received Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns through a trade. In return, the Suns got Jalen Green, Dillion Brooks, the 10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and 5 second round picks. This trade was considered a gamble due to Kevin Durant’s age, which puts into question how much he has “left in the tank”.

The trade still makes sense, though.

Kevin Durant’s career has established him as one of the greatest players in NBA history–for both his shooting and longevity–ever since he was drafted in 2007 by the then-Seattle Supersonics that eventually became the Oklahoma City Thunders.

Now, 18 years later, Kevin Durant is playing for the Houston Rockets, a team that has been struggling since the departure of James Harden. And the Rockets are on fire.

The team currently sits third in the Western Conference, behind the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunders. This is thanks to the Rockets’ offense putting up lots of points, which Durant has been critical for.

Durant, in working with other Rockets offense players Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith, looks to be completing the team that is now expected to be strong playoff contender.

The last several games have been high scoring, and the offense has been hot, scoring above 100 in their last 9 games. Outside of the offense, the Rockets defense has also been at its best in a long while.

The Houston Rockets are scary, and with the addition of Kevin Durant they have become a true team to watch.
