Sustainable Stories Film Fest returns to UHCL

The Sustainable Stories Art Exhibit and Film Fest will return for its 5th year, promoting messages and themes of sustainability by showcasing both global and local artists’ work.

The festival was created in 2020 by Professor Michael Brims of UHCL and the previous UHCL Director of Cultural Arts, Eric Despard.

“We created this festival to bring people’s attention to sustainability related matters,” says Brims. “Not so much by complaining, but rather by highlighting what folks around the world are doing to make our earth a more sustainable place.”

The festival focuses on films and artwork that highlight ideas, concepts and stories related to sustainability. This year’s special topic will be indigenous sustainability.

This year’s festival will be a collaboration between UHCL College of Human Sciences and Humanities, the UHCL School of Business, the UHCL Common Reader, Alvin Community College, and the Chicago Athletic Association.

The festival will take place on select dates in October and November, with screenings at UHCL, Alvin Community College, and the Chicago Athletic Association in Chicago.

For more information or to submit work, students can visit the Sustainable Stories Art Exhibit and Film Fest website.

The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2025.
