Before I started at UHCL, I was going through a really hard time. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but I knew I wanted to be successful—not just as a student, but as a friend and a daughter. I felt lost and unsure of my path. Coming to UHCL changed everything for me.
This university gave me more than just an education—it gave me a voice. It helped me find confidence in myself and showed me skills I didn’t even know I had. Through my experiences here, I learned how to express who I am and what I believe in.
I grew in so many ways—personally, academically, and emotionally. UHCL taught me lessons that went beyond the classroom. The professors here, especially Professor Castillo, Professor Kraus, Dr. Clark and Dr. Klyueva, didn’t just teach me about my future career; they became mentors who cared about my life and my dreams. Their support helped me believe in myself when I needed it most.
As a first-generation Mexican American student, I sometimes felt like I was carrying the weight of my family’s hopes on my shoulders. But UHCL made me feel welcomed, supported, and part of a community that truly cares. I found friends who became family and a place where I could grow into the person I want to be.
I’m so thankful for UHCL—for the education, the friendships, the mentors, and the opportunities that have shaped my journey. This school didn’t just prepare me for a career; it helped me find my passion and gave me the confidence to chase it.
Thank you, UHCL, for giving me a voice, opening doors, and changing my life in ways I never thought possible.
