Reports of ghost sightings in Neumann Library

Ghost sightings have been reported in UHCL’s Alfred R. Neumann Library. Staff and patrons claim to see the ghost wandering the aisles and sitting at desks.

“I have seen him once. I saw him run towards the XR lab then duck behind the stacks,” said Erin Sterling, a research librarian. Sterling describes the ghost as wearing a white polo and khaki pants, and says the spirit’s presence has been known for several years.

“Georgie,” as library staff call him, is described as a passive and friendly spirit who most often appears in the Archives and Special collections. He has also been reported wandering the long, desk-lined hallway on the library’s upper floor. A student manager on staff said they have felt the ghost’s presence and seen it open doors.

Library staff speculate that the ghost may be tied to a painting that used to hang in the library. The painting, which depicted three babies, was removed due to complaints from patrons that it was too creepy. Despite the painting’s removal, the ghost’s presence remains.

As a fan of the Gothic, this is the content I’ve been looking for. I may bring back another ghost from England when I return from my study abroad class on the Gothic in June 2026!
