Let’s talk

Houston — Let’s Talk Tuesday’s is a weekly event put on by the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) to raise awareness about the mental health resources provided by the University of Houston – Clear Lake (UHCL) and break the stigma surrounding therapy.

“It is a chance for students and faculty and staff to ask questions, to get to see our faces, and to feel more comfortable about the process. Our goal is to make it so that its not so scary.”

“The walk to our office can be a little scary, especially if you’re having mental health concerns. The idea of Let’s Talk was for us therapist to be in a space that was more accessible and easier to get to,” said Monica Martinez, a Therapist and Outreach Coordinator at UHCL’s CMHC.

The weekly event was created by the CMHC to offer support to students and staff who might not know where to begin when seeking help. While they cannot offer therapy sessions on the spot, they are happy to share the resources they offer, provide guidance on how to book a session, and offer any advice to those who are unsure if therapy is for them. “It is a chance for students and faculty and staff to ask questions, to get to see our faces, and to feel more comfortable about the process,” said Martinez, “Our goal is to make it so that its not so scary.”
