Being President of the Board Game Association (BGA) at UHCL has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. When I first stepped into the role, my goal was to create a space where students could come together, have fun, and connect through board games. I wanted BGA to feel like a community where everyone—whether a seasoned gamer or a total beginner—could enjoy themselves, meet new people, and find an escape from the stress of classes, homework, and everything else that comes with college life.

One of the things I am most proud of is how much the organization has grown. When I took over, we had zero members, and now we have around 200 students in the group, with about 100 active members. We introduced regular game nights, tournaments, and fun events that brought students together from all over campus. I had the opportunity to work closely with other student organizations and on-campus departments to make sure BGA remained an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone. As President, I focused on empowering my team to take ownership of projects and events. Watching them step up and lead in their own way has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of this role. I’ve always enjoyed training my team members to become successful leaders, and I’m proud to see how they’ve grown and developed during their time in BGA.
Running a student organization isn’t always as glamorous as it may sound. Behind every event, there’s a lot of hard work that goes unnoticed—securing spaces, handling logistics, making sure we have the right supplies, promoting our events, asking for funding, and organizing fundraisers. Balancing all of this with my academics and other commitments was challenging, but it taught me how to manage my time and communicate more effectively. There were many late nights and moments when things didn’t go according to plan, but the sense of accomplishment when an event came together made it all worth it.
What really stands out to me about my time leading BGA is the camaraderie within the group. I truly believe BGA has the potential to grow even more on campus. The passion I have put into the organization has paid off—BGA won the Best New Organization Award and Peers’ Choice Organization Award in 2024 at the Hawk Excellence Award ceremony, and I was honored to receive the Distinguished Leader Award and Peers’ Choice Student Leader of the Year. We all shared a vision, and it was amazing to see how each team member contributed to the success of our events. I am proud of what we have built, and I feel lucky to have worked alongside such dedicated people. Being featured in The Signal is an honor, and I hope the impact we have made at UHCL lasts long after my time as president.
