This year’s Navy Fleet Week will be hosted in Port Houston from Nov. 5–12, bringing Navy and Coast Guard ships, along with more than 1,000 sailors, to the region for a week of public events and military appreciation.
It will be the first time Port Houston, the nation’s largest port by waterborne tonnage, is serving as the host site to this event. Organizers say the event aims to highlight the connection between Houston’s maritime industry and the nation’s sea services.
The celebration will include ship tours, concerts, parades and community activities honoring those who serve at sea.
Free public ship tours are scheduled daily from Nov. 6–11 at the Bayport Container Terminal and Turning Basin Terminal. Visitors 18 and older must show a valid government-issued ID, and non-U.S. citizens must present a passport and complete additional screening.
Children under 5 will not be admitted aboard the vessels. Strollers, pets and open-toed shoes are not allowed. Guests should expect to climb ladders and move through narrow spaces without assistance. Ships do not have public restrooms, though facilities will be available on the docks.
Some vessels are not ADA accessible, and no public parking will be available at the terminals. Shuttle information will be provided during registration.
Organizers said Fleet Week Houston will feature more than 200 events across the city, including Navy Band concerts, Veterans Day parades, school programs and museum activities. Interactive events such as the Fitness Olympics, a Galley Wars cook-off and “Dancing with the Stars and Stripes” are also planned.
