Damaged bridge near Bayou Building slated for repairs

After months of visible wear and damage, the wooden bridge and walkway in front of the Bayou Building on campus is set to receive maintenance following the placing of a work order.

The bridge, which connects key pedestrian areas on campus, has shown signs of deterioration for several months. Several boards are cracked or detached from their supports, and one section has nails protruding from a broken plank. Weeds have also begun growing between the boards.

Students have raised safety concerns about the walkway’s condition, as the damaged boards and exposed nails pose potential tripping or injury hazards. The bridge remains open to foot traffic, but some on campus have taken extra caution when crossing.

The Signal reached out to UHCL Facilities Management regarding the bridge’s condition. The department confirmed that a work order has been submitted to address the issue but did not provide additional comment. No timeline for completion has been announced.

Once repaired, the bridge will continue to serve as a key connection point for the campus community.
