Creative Writing Club invites students to join and share their voice

The Creative Writing Club, a student-run organization, welcomes students of all majors who share a passion for writing to join their weekly meetings that they hold once a week on Thursdays from 4 – 5 p.m. in the UHCL Writing Center.

Started with the goal to provide a supportive space for all UHCL students, to write, share their work, and receive constructive feedback from fellow members, all forms of writing are welcome, including poems, flash and short fiction stories, screenplays, and even memoirs.

As I spoke with Club President Arianne Esquivel, herself a Bio Chem major with a passion for writing poetry, at their table during Welcome Back Bash, I asked her what she is most excited for this academic year.

“I look forward with continuing the club’s Literary Magazine and featuring more UHCL student voices,” said Esquivel.

The Literary Magazine, which had its first ever issue published this May, showcases all kinds of writings from students at UHCL, which both Members and non-members of the Creative Writing Club will have the chance to contribute to.

The current plan is for the literary magazine’s next issue to be published in May of 2026. To give prospective contributors ample time, submissions will open in the beginning of the Spring Semester and close around the end of that March.

For those who’d like to check out the latest issue, it can be found on the organization’s substack page.

To get involved, students can join the club through HawkLink by searching under the “Groups” tab, or learn more about their activities by following them on Instagram at @UHCLCWC.
