Beyonce faces hypocrisy from country fans

After Beyonce released her 8th studio album “Cowboy Carter,” she has been getting praised by fans, but vicious attacks from critics for not being “country enough”.

If you ever listen to country music in the big 2025, you have heard a variety of artists in the scene. Country music has been on the rise for a while now and newcomers are exposed to several good artists, and songs from the genre. Noticeably some of the biggest name in music has experimented with the country sound, with artist such as Post Malone and Beyonce.

Charley Crockett, a fellow country artist from San Benito, Texas put out on Instagram on August 19th explaining his defense of the pop star.

“Beyonce ain’t the source of your discontent. It was 25 years of bro country” and “I don’t need to put down a black woman to advance my music. That’s just embarrassing to the idea of America and I got no respect for it” were quotes from the long post by Mr. Crockett himself.

These 2 quotes according to Crockett, bro-country has been the mainstream source of the country which is a blend of rock, and pop into a country sound, noticeable artist such as Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan have been artist who have seen massive success from the genre. The second quote according to Crockett was a shot at fellow country artist Gavin Adcock who said “That s*** ain’t country music, it ain’t ever been country music and it ain’t never gonna be country music” who said that during a show while his album was trailing her album in the country charts.

Some people would ask. Why does it matter since Beyonce has a bigger platform? The reason for a defense from a fellow country artist is because during the release of her eight studio album “Cowboy Carter” while being praised, it was also met with criticism for it not being “country enough”

Charley Crockett is right to defend her because while some of the critics were harsh and that country is gaining popularity, some of the country songs have been mixing a bit of pop and some hip-hop into the music. People question authenticity of new artist who want to experiment with the sound. People often forget that Beyonce is a fellow Texan, from Houston and that she may want to get into the scene at some point in her career. Charley Crockett has been making country music since 2015 and has blended modern with traditional country music. To me, it is still art made by artist and they can make whatever they want.
