Bayou Building construction noise causes concern among students

As students begin the Fall 2025 semester, construction in the Bayou Building has been causing concern.

UHCL is currently renovating the third floor of the Bayou Building. The renovation includes upgrading the third-floor labs and classrooms.

“It sounds like they are dropping heavy metal pipes. I get scared sometimes,”  said a student who asked not to be identified. “You know it’s construction but, you know, you’ve got to be aware of what’s going on.”

In reference to the ongoing construction, the UHCL website says, “The wide-ranging scope of this project will present challenges in the form of noise (and), disruption of normal activities in the office and class environment.”

Douglas Wells, UHCL’s Associate Vice President of Facilities Management and Construction, says that the construction’s scheduled completion date will be August 2026.

For more information, and to get further updates on construction progress, students can visit the UHCL website.

I had an in-person exam in the classrooms near the construction. I wasn’t able to focus at all with all the noise, banging, and yelling going on and my grade suffered for it, is there any way that the construction can be moved to later in the day?
