A definitive list of the top 10 chairs the Bayou Building has to offer

Ever wondered where the best place to relax at campus is?

I know I have. But what is a place to relax without a comfortable seat to relax in?

This is why I have created just the article for you, with our rankings of the best seats to chill in across all of UHCL’s Bayou Building.

Myself, along with fellow students Jakob Lyssy and Aidan Moon, took it upon ourselves to go and sit in each and every chair we could find, and now have ratings ranging from how comfortable they were, to how they looked visually, to their location around campus!

#10

Starting off at 10, we have a couch from the second floor of the library!

It’s quite spacious, with armrests wide enough for even the most dedicated “gym rat” to get comfy, and has decently soft cushions.

The final score for this seat was 57/90.

#9

Moving on to number nine, we have an oddball. This seat is by no means comfortable, but instead exceptionally unique. Found outside the Bayou Theater, located on the second floor, this seat is built into the wall, connecting to the theater itself!

With the addition of just a seat cushion, this would be a wonderful spot to relax for a while.

We do admit it’s definitely carried by its looks and location, though, and because of that it sits only slightly above #10 at 58/90.

#8

On to number eight, we have a simple seat that can be found in the Neumann Library.

While the lack of armrests brought it’s rating down by a bit, the cushion was just right. And, since it is in the library, it makes a great place to study, and gives a wonderful elevated view out to the front of campus.

Because of those two bonuses, this chair scored a 60/90.

#7

At number seven, we have these distinctive benches by the Neumann Library entrance.

Due to their snakey appearance and overall wonderful design, which bumped their score up a bunch for us, this ended with a 61/90, with a good chunk of the points coming from their aesthetic.

#6

Another library seat now in the number six spot, we have this nice little corner chair towards the back end of the space so, if you enjoy privacy, this is a really great choice.

One of its downsides, however, is that there’s no table nearby to do any work on. But, there is still a leg rest for you to use if you happen to use a laptop. The back support is also nice, considering I’m a sucker for chairs that create a corner for your body to relax against.

Its final score from us was a 63/90.

#5

Down to the final five now, and we’re continuing with these conjoined corner chairs (or benches?) also by the library’s entrance!

And, this time, they even come with a table and conveniently placed charging dock for your phone or laptop!

The chair’s closely attached design clearly seems to be made with partner work in mind, so if you’re looking for a place to do that, this makes for the perfect location!

These traits scored the seat a 65/90 on our rankings.

#4

Moving on down to number four, here’s another very unique chair that can be found in a reclusive corner of the library.

Placed closely to a power outlet and small table, this chair is most special thanks to its main cushion being second-to-none from every other chair we’ve rated so far!

It really was so soft that sitting in it honestly felt like I was melting into the seat. So, if you like being comfortable, then this is the chair to visit.

The only reason it could not break into the top three is due to its total lack of armrests.

This spot earned itself a clean 66/90 on our scale, tying with number three.

#3

At the start of the podium. Coming in with the bronze medal we have another amazing spot in the library! (There’s a bit of a trend going on, it seems.)

While the armrests aren’t perfect, the chair’s rating is made up for by the nearby (currently out of frame) leg rests!

The, once again, private location these chairs are in is also a huge bonus!

Thanks to these factors, this chair tied with number four at a score of 66/90.

#2

Earning itself the silver medal at number two, we have an outlier; a chair that is finally not in the library!

This chair almost has it all; armrests, a great view, a leg rest, and even a table by the side. What more could you possibly want?

The only real issue we had with it was it’s pretty underwhelming appearance.

When all was said and done this chair ended with a 69/90, held back only by its aesthetics.

#1

Here we are, at the finish line.

Now, if you’ve ever spent any time in the library at all, there’s a good chance you’ve seen (or even personally sat) in this chair.

If that’s the case for you, then you had to have known that this was going to be the seat waiting here at the end.

This really has it all; a leg rest, an arm rest, built-in power outlets, a table, privacy, a small lamp, and is even placed to give a great view if that wasn’t enough!!!

To be frank, this chair was what came to mind, and was the reason why, I wrote this.

I wanted to see if any other seat in Bayou could compare to it, and now have the answer.

This chair tops the list with an 80/90 on our scale, only held back by, again, its aesthetics, which was the only reason we could possibly find to knock it for.

This is definitively the best chair in the entire building.

Closing Thoughts

Even though I tried to see if any other chair, seat, or couch in Bayou could compare to our top pick, there’s one more thing I learned in the process of writing this out.

The library’s dominance in comfortability is unrivaled.

There’s no way you put that couch on #10 below #9. What kind of biased reporting is this?
